Melinda
Sallins’ 2008 Olympic hopes
came to an end Saturday in
Eugene, Ore. as the former
Missouri State track and
field star finished 11th
in 400 Meter Hurdles at the
US Olympic Trials.
In Friday’s first round
action Sallins made it
through to the semi-finals
with her quarterfinal run of
57.15 seconds placing her
second behind only Nike’s
Lashinda Demus.
During Saturday's semifinal
her improved run of 56.39
seconds was not good enough
to make it on to Sunday’s
eight person final where the
top three finishers will
qualify to represent the
United States at the Beijing
Olympics.
Sallins, a two-time
all-American for the Bears,
set the Missouri State
record in the 400 Meter
Hurdles (56.64) as a senior
in 1996. Sallins, who will
turn 36 on Monday, also
holds the MSU record for the
indoor 55 Meter Hurdles at
7.92 seconds.
